It is centrally located, just north of Washington, D.C., west of Baltimore, south of Gettysburg, and east of Frederick. Interstate 70 borders the town and provides easy access to larger cities and major employment centers in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia. It encompasses 4 of Maryland’s counties – Carroll, Montgomery, Frederick and Howard.
Mount Airy’s slogan is Stop, Shop, and Stroll and it is easy to do all of those things on Main Street in the older part of the town. This has become the mantra that attracts visitors to the town and it has become a premier destination.
Stroll along Main Street and take time to eat in one of the many excellent restaurants located there. Shop for fresh fruits and vegetables at the Farmer’s Market during the spring and summer months. Teens love to shop for vintage clothing as well as one of a kind gowns at Deja Vue. There are many other shopping establishments on Main Street as well as other parts of the town. More modern stores such as Home Goods have appeared in some of the newer shopping centers of Mt. Airy.
