As summer continues winding down, Front Royal is gearing up.

During the summer months when temperatures can reach in to the 100s, some of us choose to stay inside with the AC on high. Autumn provides us with a few weeks of perfect weather for outdoor activities before we’re forced to retreat back in doors to wait out the severity of the Virginia winter.

This weekend kicks off the fall activities with the 4th annual Brew & Blues festival in historic downtown Front Royal, presented by the Front Royal-Warren County Chamber of Commerce.

Beginning in 2010, the festival was added to the lineup of events celebrating the end of summer as a nod to the beer drinkers of the Shenandoah Valley. With twelve vineyards surrounding Warren County, and the annual Wine Festival held every May, the town wanted to go in a new direction and offer a variety of beers that normally would not be available. With over 2,000 attendees in the first year, Brew & Blues was permanently added to the annual calendar of events.

Twenty+ different microbrews will be showcased for the ultimate beer tasting experience. Wristbands will be issued to the attendees who will be drinking, so be sure to bring a valid ID. Drinkers will be allowed to carry open containers within a designated area around the entertainment.

Live blues music by two of the areas favorite bands will be playing all afternoon at the gazebo.

The festival will also include a variety of local artisans, crafters & food vendors , who will be exhibiting their wares. Several downtown merchants will be offering promotions and coupons for the anticipated crowds.

Gates open at noon on Saturday, September 28 in the Town Square, located on the corner of Main & Chester Streets. Parking will be plentiful on E. Stonewall Dr., one street over from Main.

The Patty Reese Band will officially kick off the festival at 1:00pm., followed by the hard-driving blues/rock and funk band, Moondog Medicine Show at 4:00.

The general admission price is $2. Tasting admission is $15 in advance and $20 at the gate for drinkers, and includes a 16 oz. Pilsner glass that festival-goers can take home as a souvenir, and 10 tickets for samplings or to go toward the purchase of full beers.

Advance tickets can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce, 104 E. Main St.; the visitors center, 414 E. Main St.; or at Brew & Blues – Tickets.

The event is rain or shine, and tickets are non-refundable.

Please, no pets.
