New Outlets Come to NOVA, DC, & MD Just In Time for Holiday Shopping

Black Friday for the DC and NOVA area just got a little more convenient and a lot more fun with the grand opening of the new Tanger Outlets located at the National Harbor. With names like J. Crew, Michael Kors, Polo Ralph Lauren, and a Nike Factory Store opening just minutes from Arlington and Alexandria, and still very convenient to many other northern Virginia counties, holiday shoppers have less traffic than trying to deal with traveling down 95 to reach Potomac Mills, and a lot more shopping to look forward to this season.

Black Friday at Tanger Outlets, National Harbor

Technically Tanger Outlets’ Black Friday shopping spree is starting before Friday even begins. Shoppers can arrive at the outlets and begin their foraging through more than 80 different shops at 10PM on Thanksgiving day. While some of the shops will be running their own independent deals and sales, the outlets as a whole are offering 20% off for “Deals at Dark”, from 10PM Thanksgiving day to 3AM Friday morning, and then 30% off for “Deals at Dawn”, which runs from 3AM to 6AM. Shoppers can visit http://www.tangeroutlet.com/moonlightsavingspass to download a savings pass for the big day. Click hereto see a list of the sales each store is running at any given time, Tanger updates the list frequently when new sales are announced.

Shops and Attractions

Tanger lists 85 designer and brand name stores housed at this new outlet center. Click hereto visit the full store directory and find a map to plot out shopping strategies. On the same page Tanger has their extended holiday hours and special Thanksgiving and day after Thanksgiving shopping hours listed. Besides a Starbucks, Johnny Rockets, and an Auntie Anne’s Pretzel + Planet Smoothie combination, there are not a lot of eating options at the new outlets. Luckily nearby weary and hungry shoppers can get a bite to eat at some of the many restaurants and bars speckled throughout the National Harbor, there’s a McCormick & Schmicks, Rosa Mexicano, Thai Pavilion and Nando’s Peri-Peri to mention a few.

Directions and Parking

The new shopping center is conveniently located very close to the well known National Harbor structures such the Gaylord Hotel, harbor marina, and harbor shops and restaurants, but isn’t actually in that developed area. Anyone who’s visited the harbor before should have no trouble locating the shops situated just off the Capital Beltway as you enter Maryland from Alexandria. Click hereto find out more specific driving directions from DC, Maryland and Southern Maryland, and Virginia. The exact address for the new outlets is 6800 Oxon Hill Road, National Harbor, MD 20745.

Parking is free, but unfortunately as is the case with most outlets, not always readily available. Since there are not a lot of other developments around where the outlets are located that could serve as alternative parking options, shoppers will have limited selection to what’s available at the outlets.

One option to have a leg up on the parking situation would be to park at a garage in the National Harbor and take the Tanger Outlets’ free shuttle bus from the downtown harbor directly to the outlets themselves. Shuttle pick-up locations at the harbor include the Gaylord Hotel and Waterfront Street in front of the Aloft Hotel; it is operational from 4pm – 9pm, Monday through Saturday. This service is perfect for out of town guests staying in the harbor area. Visitors could also reserve car service for a $5.00 flat fee per car from the harbor to the outlets by calling 1-855-4XPRESS.

Shop Till You Drop (Safely!)

With extended holiday hours and expectations of an overwhelming amount of visitors to the new outlets’ inaugural holiday season, the area is going to be quite busy and hectic. Prince George’s County police will be on hand to help smooth out traffic woes and aide with parking, but undoubtedly there will be some headaches along the way. Shoppers can follow @pgpdnews and the hashtag #operationoutlets to learn more about what’s going on in the area. Please shop safely and considerately in the spirit of holiday cheer, and let us know what you buy!
